Manahil Qureshi - Photographer from Pakistan

Times of Youth: For those who don’t know about you and your work, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Manahil Qureshi: I’m just a normal girl from Pakistan who loves taking photos and likes to play around with them. I’m currently studying International business from London and I’m loving it (loving London, not the study part). I began taking pictures about 4 years back. My sisters would dress up and I would take their pictures. Since then I’ve experimented and have grown in my love for photography and pictures. I did it for fun earlier, but then I started sharing my work with people and I got a really positive response which led me to be offered professional services. I absolutely love portrait and wedding photography. I love being surrounded by pure joy of celebrating all the different forms of love which I get to see at wedding or family events.

Times of Youth: What do you want your viewers to take away from your work?

Manahil Qureshi: I want them to say ‘Wow, I wish I was there too”. I want them to be able to actually feel whatever has happened while taking the picture. If they get the feeling, it means I am doing my job right. Other than that, I really want to be able to show a positive and happy side of the world. I do this by mainly capturing happy moments and letting everyone know that if there are tensions in life, there are happy moments too.

Times of Youth: Who are some of your favorite classic photographers, and how did they influence you?

Manahil Qureshi: Well I’d be lying if I start naming a number of classic photographers because I’ve really never looked into that. I do have some of my favourites from the present and the one I respect and like a lot is from my country, Pakistan. His name is Kashif Qadri. I’ve always found his work more different and attractive than the others.

Times of Youth: What are some tips/advice you would give to yourself if you started photography all over again?

Manahil Qureshi: Do not post your rookie photography pictures, Manahil! I look back at them now and I laugh at myself. What was I even thinking when I posted them? On the other hand though I learnt a lot from all that, and any beginning is always supposed to be like that, right?

Times of Youth: What is one question nobody has ever asked you - that you wish they asked you?

Manahil Qureshi: Nice question. Well, the question would be: Why did I take so long to come out and start my own page? The answer to that is that my father and his appreciation has always been really important to me. I would always hear everyone praise my work and tell me I’m super amazing and I should definitely come out. My answer would always be, 'not right now, I’m waiting for something'. So, whenever I would show my father my work he would say “It’s okay”, that was definitely not enough for me. So I waited and waited and waited (took a lot of patience!). Then, finally one day he looked at one of these pictures I took and he replied “Wow”.That was the moment I knew that todayI’m ready to come out and share my work with people.

Times of Youth: Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

Manahil Qureshi: I’m still waiting for my favourite.

One word answers:

1) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be?

50mm, 1.2

Speedlite!

3) What type of cameras do you shoot with?
I shoot with Canon Mark III, Canon 600D, Nikon D810.

4) How would you describe your style?
Nothing constant, keeps changing.

5) What is your most used Photoshop tool, plug-in, action set etc.?
I love Photoshop and it is so hard to choose one tool so I will just go with the whole of Photoshop.
